With the final whistle of the Barnsley defeat still ringing in our ears Thomas Frank has no time to dust himself off and must pit his wits against the old enemy, Queens Park Rangers.
On this week’s podcast David Anderson and Jonathan Hope dissected Barnsley and previewed the QPR game for us. They did such a good job enabling us to keep this brief.
They discussed QPR’s change of shape to a now settled 3-4-3 and how the are likely to attempt to replicate some of the successes of Barnsley.
Bright Osayi-Samuel was a danger out wide in the reverse fixture and Rico Henry for one will be a glad recipient of the news Samuel eventually got his dream move away from West London able to now call Turkey home.
QPR and specifically Mark Warburton ripped up his history books and adjusted to a wing-back shape before Samuel’s departure, playing wing back wasn’t his preferred choice, and since the wide forwards departure a clearly defined structure from front to back has seen QPR stop leaking goals, sure up at the back with a back 5 / 3 system and provide a better base under the ball to record 4 wins in their last 5 games.
Just in time for Brentford to come to town.
Thomas Frank has rotation issues of his own with Mbeumo struggling for consistency and an injured Marcondes limiting midfield options.
If only Christian Nørgaard would appear fit ready to take some of the load.
