As a thank you for our growing email base we thought we’d treat you all to some bonus Benrahma magic from the 3-1 victory over Derby County.
We’ve uploaded a 30 second clip showing the passage of play leading up to the goal finishing on the celebration with Thomas Frank.
The Algerian’s finish against Derby could well be his best yet. Where do you even start in deciding from that list by the way?
The reason we believe this has resonated so much with us beyond the finish itself is the build up to give Benrahma the space he needs to execute a skill like this. All from a throw-in on the opposite side.
The media is filled with talking heads explaining how the game hasn’t changed and pundits going out of their way to routinely quash the idea that things like throw-ins (restarts) can be coached. Blah! Blah! Blah!
Over on the far right hand side, Nørgaard, Dasilva and Marcondes have three planned runs to switch markers and create space to get the ball into the feet of Emiliano and shuffled out to Säid on the left wing to isolate the right back, Bogle, 1v1.
This situation couldn’t have gone any better as you watch Nørgaard make a dummy run forward and Josh Dasilva move back into his vacated space. Just after the moment their markers are forced to swap, the ball is thrown long and inside towards Marcondes who uses the speed on the throw to allow the ball to run across his body. He floats diagonally taking a couple of touches waiting for the moment to release to the waiting Benrahma. Once controlled, l’assistant has already mapped out his intentions. Can he get inside of the full back onto his right foot, and can he get closer to goal and improve his shooting or crossing angle. Magic doesn’t exist. Repetition, sleight of foot and practice are the reality of what has happened here. The coordination between the two wings, having them fully engaged no matter which side the ball is on is the common trait of the best teams. Benrahma was always the final trick from the throw.
That’s enough from us. Watch the clip again, and again, and again and let us know if this is Benrahma’s best goal for Brentford?
If it's not, prove it. Feel free to contribute a rival or link to a contender.
