Brentford midfielder links up at Shrewsbury Town with other interesting loans.
Jan Zamburek is the latest young Brentford star to secure a valuable league loan away from the club as League One side Shrewsbury Town take the midfielder under their wing for season 20/21.
We wish him well and will be keeping more than a glancing eye on the 19 year old as he gets the chance to express himself in a strong and evenly matched division.
Zamburek made an almost flawless midweek debut for the Shrews in the EFL Cup win against Bolton.
Strong in possession and making good runs off the ball, particularly into the left channel, Jan took to his new surroundings immediately. He’s becoming synonymous with high intensity pressing as an advanced midfielder and this was clearly visible through his harrying of the Bolton defence and midfield.
With Shrewsbury opting for a similar system to Brentford against Bolton it isn’t a surprise to see Zamburek settle in fast. Defenders are comfortable on the ball, fullbacks like to push high and attackers like to play narrow with a technical and fluid midfield.
Shrews fans watching on must have had a strong sense of nostalgia rush over them with another young red-topped midfield general imposing himself on games.
One thing that will strike them is the physicality Zamburek already arrives with.
The last twelve months has seen him develop into a man and this is his chance to consistently play in a midfield pair ahead of a deeper screen, the position he looks best suited for. With good speed and acceleration, tidy balance off both feet, Jan has the work rate and tactical discipline to shrink tight into a solid midfield unit when out of possession and expand and stretch teams the other way as they try to build up and attack.
Other Shrews loans to watch
Marlon Fossey is an American right back on loan from Fulham. He is looking to restart his career after a long injury lay off and is now in his early 20s. Fossey stood out in the match vs Bolton, as he should, with his high positioning, strong attacking instincts on the ball and good speed which he uses well to get up and down his flank.
Scott High is another 19 year old on loan from a Championship club as Huddersfield, too, have found a home for a young midfielder.
High could form an exciting partnership with Zamburek by his side to the left and Fossey racing away and up the wing to his right. High is far more like Woods in midfield positioning and actual style as Bolton struggled to play through Shrews getting more success when they went long.
With Leon Clarke up front and Vela linking midfield and attack, watching Shrews is going to bring some amount of joy.
Stay tuned as we follow Jan and other loans in action away from Brentford.
